November 2019 Monthly Human Resources Updates

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Human Resources is pleased to provide updates and announce new programs and services for our Loyola University Chicago community. Please review the information below to learn more about Benefits Open Enrollment, the discontinuation of the Transfer of Employee-Service Credit LUMC/LUC Policy, and how faculty and staff members can score free tickets to a men’s basketball game.

2020 Benefits Open Enrollment
The Open Enrollment period for 2020 benefit elections will be November 1 through November 15 using Employee Self-Service. This is your annual opportunity to review and make changes to your and your family’s benefits. Detailed information summarizing benefit offerings is in the 2020 Benefits Highlights Booklet. Alternately, learn more by consulting ALEX, an interactive online tool designed to serve as your personalized benefits counselor.

Medical Insurance Change: Aetna Transition
Aetna becomes Loyola’s medical plan provider effective January 1, 2020. This provider change from Blue Cross Blue Shield to Aetna allows faculty and staff members to maintain access to high-quality health care services along with access to a wide network of hospitals and providers. Explore your medical plan options and learn more about this important medical provider change during Benefits Open Enrollment.

Need to find a clinician? Use Aetna’s DocFind tool, which is specifically designed for Loyola, to search for a provider. For additional details regarding the Aetna transition, please review the Aetna transition support communication that was distributed to faculty and staff in October.

If you have questions regarding Aetna coverage, you may contact an Aetna Concierge Agent at 800.850.9946 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Please note: The phone line is active during Benefits Open Enrollment only (November 1–November 15).

For additional details about Benefits Open Enrollment and the Aetna transition, please visit the Human Resources website.

Policy Change: Transfer of Employee-Service Credit LUMC/LUC Policy
Effective November 1, 2019, the Transfer of Employee-Service Credit LUMC/LUC Policy for the University and Loyola University Medical Center will no longer be in effect. This is due to employment policy changes within Trinity Health and Trinity Health Ministries, which impact the reciprocal relationship previously in place between the University and the Medical Center.

The discontinuation means that employees hired after November 1, 2019 by either the University or the Medical Center will no longer receive credit for prior service with the other organization. There will be no impact on service credits previously received by employees prior to the effective date of this revised policy. If you have any questions about this change, please contact Human Resources.
