60th Anniversary

IPS 60th Anniversary
Celebrating, Enacting, Envisioning
The Institute of Pastoral Studies is turning 60!
IPS welcomed its first students in 1964. Over 140 students arrived for a summer residential experience that was at the cutting edge of discerning and integrating the developments of the Second Vatican Council into the ministry of religious education. Over the next 60 years, IPS evolved to include degrees, certificates, and continuing education programs in pastoral studies and divinity, spirituality and spiritual direction, counseling, social justice, and more. The Institute was founded by Jesuits and resided in the School of Education, then moved to The Graduate School, and now is an independent academic unit with its Dean reporting directly to the Provost. Evolution is in the DNA of IPS and during this Anniversary year we will look back, take stock of the present, and plan together for the future!
We invite you to journey with us at events throughout the 2024-25 academic year to Celebrate our Past, Enact the Present, and Envision the Future.
