Guy Caprio is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who joined the Wellness Center in March of 2015. He made the transition to social work after 17 years trading financial markets in New York City and Chicago. Prior to Loyola, he spent three years at Lawrence Hall where he provided individual and group therapy to adolescent young men in the DCFS system with significant trauma histories who lived in the residential program. He ended his time there as Director of Residential Services and continues to provide clinical supervision toward licensure to their social workers on a contractual basis. Guy is a Loyola University Chicago alumnus earning his Master of Social Work in 2011. He completed a clinical internship at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital where he provided individual and group therapy to both combat and non-combat military veterans. These clinical experiences, both at a VA Hospital and a Residential Treatment Center, provided insight into how short and long term trauma exposure impacts our bodies and brains across our life span. Guy uses a strengths based approach to assist clients in recognizing their value and potential as human beings. His clinical experience and some interests include attachment, family of origin/relationship issues, trauma (processing and recovery) and crisis intervention. Recent research/presentation topics in his current role include the impact of internet/social media use on college student mental health and improving access and care at college wellness centers to traditionally underserved and underrepresented students. Outside of work Guy enjoys outdoor activities, exploring Chicago, traveling and spending time with his family.
