About
Dr. David Brooke Wetzel is currently a full-time instructor in the Computer Science department, with a specialization in Digital Music. He is a classically trained clarinetist with interests in contemporary music, collaborative multimedia, interactive electroacoustic music, and creative coding.
At LUC, he teaches courses in Music Technology (music composition and arranging with the Digital Audio Workstation), Digital Music (introduction to coding for music), and Visual Information Processing (creative coding for graphics and animation). His research interests focus on interactive electroacoustic music systems and the creation of accessible technology-mediated musical experiences.
Active as a recording engineer and multimedia designer/programmer, Dr. Wetzel serves as technical director for Access Contemporary Music in Chicago. At ACM, he helps produce the “Thirsty Ears” street festival of classical music, the “Sound of Silent Film Festival,” provides recording and post-production audio for the forthcoming TV series "Songs About Buildings and Moods," and provides technical expertise for other miscellaneous new music projects.
Prior to returning to his hometown of Chicago, Dr. Wetzel was an Associate Professor of clarinet and music technology at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where he founded and coordinated the B.Mus. with Emphasis in Music Technology. Other teaching appointments include Central Arizona College, the Baltimore High School for the Arts, and the Peabody Preparatory.
