ULock Program

Bicycle Safety/ULock Program

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM?

Bicycle thefts are one of the most common crimes committed on college campuses across the country, and Loyola University Chicago is not immune.

Campus Safety has identified that the majority of bicycles that are stolen from campus are either not secured or are secured by an easily defeated chain or cable style lock. When used properly, a "U" style lock can dramatically decrease the risk of bicycle theft.

It is with this in mind that Campus Safety has created a program to allow students to purchase a "U" Style lock for a reduced price of $20. The lock is a Kryptonite Evolution Series4 bike lock (for more info please visit Kryptonite's web page).

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROGRAM?

The program is open to any Loyola University Student who is registered at least part-time for classes for the Fall or Spring semester. In order to participate, students MUST register their bicycle with Loyola University Chicago and the Chicago Police Department.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

Simply fill out the registration form found here.

  • The current price is $20 per lock and can be paid by cash, check or money order. Checks and Money Orders MUST be made out to Loyola University Chicago.
  • Once you have completed the form, print a copy of the confirmation and bring it, along with your $20, your Loyola Student ID and the bicycle to one of the following locations;

Lake Shore Campus
Campus Safety Office
6427N Sheridan Road
24 hours a day, seven days a week

Water Tower Campus
Baumhart Hall
26E Pearson
10:00AM -6:00pm, Monday through Friday

Please note, you MUST bring the bicycle with you in order to receive the bicycle lock.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

A lock is only a deterrent when used properly. Students should review the literature provided with the lock to determine the most appropriate way to secure their bicycle. Click here for a handy guide on securing your bicycle as put out by the City of Chicago. Loyola University Chicago is not liable for any theft or damage that may occur after purchasing a bicycle lock through this program.

Kryptonite provides a warranty and anti-theft protection with the purchase of the lock. It is the responsibility of the individual student to submit the appropriate documents to register the lock. For more information on that, please see their web site here. These documents must be mailed, there currently is not an option to do it online.

Only one lock, per student.

The U-Lock program is a first come, first served basis. There are limited quantities of locks, registering your bike does NOT guarantee you a lock.

If you have already registered your bicycle with Loyola Campus Safety, you will need to re-register with us in order to be eligible for the U-Lock program.
