Loyola University Chicago

Campus Safety

ULock Program

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM?

Bicycle thefts are one of the most common crimes committed on college campuses across the country, and Loyola University Chicago is not immune.

Campus Safety has identified that the majority of bicycles that are stolen on or around campus are either not secured correctly or are secured by an easily defeated chain or cable style lock. When used properly, a "U" style lock can dramatically decrease the risk of bicycle theft.

Current students are able to purchase a lock for $30.

Current Faculty and Staff are able to purchase a lock for $40.

The lock is a Kryptonite Evolution Series4 bike lock.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROGRAM?

The program is open to any current Loyola University Student, Faculty or Staff Member who is registered at least part-time for classes for the Fall or Spring semester. In order to be eligible, participants MUST register their bicycle with Loyola University Chicago and the Chicago Police Department.

Students can purchase the lock for $30.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

A lock is only a deterrent when used properly. Students should review the literature provided with the lock to determine the most appropriate way to secure their bicycle. Click here for a handy guide on securing your bicycle as put out by the City of Chicago. Loyola University Chicago is not liable for any theft or damage that may occur after purchasing a bicycle lock through this program.

Kryptonite provides a warranty and anti-theft protection with the purchase of the lock. It is the responsibility of the individual student to submit the appropriate documents to register the lock. These documents must be mailed, there currently is not an option to do it online.

Only one lock, per student, faculty or staff member.

The U-Lock program is a first come, first served basis. There are limited quantities of locks, registering your bike does NOT guarantee you a lock.

If you have already registered your bicycle with Loyola Campus Safety, you will need to re-register with us in order to be eligible for the U-Lock program.
