Press Release: On behalf of Student Government of Loyola University Chicago
March 13, 2020
Dear Loyola Community,
On behalf of the Student Government of Loyola Chicago, we want to recognize what a frustrating, anxiety-inducing, and stressful time this can be for students on our campuses. Despite the switch to online classes, the SGLC will remain operational for the remainder of the semester. We will run all meetings remotely via the online platform Zoom to ensure the student-centered initiatives we are working on that are important to the student body remain as successful as possible. For more information, please visit https://www.luc.edu/sglc/senate/.
We know many students are wondering how these developments will affect registered student organization events and funding for the rest of this semester and the Fall of 2020. The Allocations Committee will proceed with allocating Student Activity Fee funds for the Fall 2020 semester through the Fall SBR cycle with the following changes:
- Fall SBR Deadline has been extended to Friday, March 20 at 5:00 p.m. CST.
- Budget Hearings originally scheduled for Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 have been cancelled. Budget hearings are not required for RSOs to attend, but the Allocations Committee will provide an alternative to hearings for RSOs that will be optional.
- RSOs will be notified of decisions no later than Wednesday, April 1st at 5:00 p.m. CST.
- Appeals will be due on LUCommunity Tuesday, April 7th at 5:00 p.m. CST.
- Appeals will be heard at the Senate via Zoom on Tuesday, April 14th at 4:00 p.m. CST.
Given that all events hosted by RSOs are cancelled for this semester, RSOs may reschedule these events for the Fall 2020 semester, however, SAF funded events cancelled will not have funding roll over into the fall. Please utilize the extension to submit rescheduled events for the opportunity to reobtain funding. Per requests from an RSO, the Allocations Committee will make itself available to meet via Zoom to assist in the submission process. To schedule a meeting or to inquire about these changes please email allocations@luc.edu.
Please continue to monitor University messaging and websites for the most updated and accurate information regarding the Coronavirus and how it will affect campus. Any and all questions should be asked directly to COVID19support@luc.edu.
