Policy 
Loyola University is dedicated to ensuring a consistent focus on personal integrity, ethical behavior in business, the appropriate balance between justice and fairness, and fostering a positive spirit of cooperation and collaboration among all its employees. The dignity of the individual is enhanced by their fulfillment and satisfaction gained from the work performed. It is essential to Loyola's mission to develop appropriate policies and procedures that strive for excellence and help create a positive work environment.

Application
This policy applies to all employees of Loyola University Chicago, with the exception of differences which may be found in the Faculty Handbook.

Information
To maintain fair and effective Human Resource policies and procedures, the University will attempt to:

  • Employ persons on the basis of qualifications, without regard to race, color, religion (except where religion is a bona fide occupational qualification), national origin or ancestry, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or any other classification protected by applicable law;
  • Provide competitive salary and benefit programs;
  • Provide employee development opportunities through a tuition benefit program and other voluntary internal/external training programs;
  • Provide channels of communication for conflict and grievance resolution procedures for staff, as well as access to an employee assistance program:
    • Encourage reporting of incidents of conflict to a Supervisor, Human Resources, or the next level up in Department management. Instances of discrimination, sexual harassment, or retaliation as related to Title IX, Title VI, and Title VII, will be immediately reported to the Office for Equity and Compliance;
    • Provide a 24/7 hotline reporting system to report activities that may involve misconduct and violations of University policy, which are not a part of the scope of the Office for Equity and Compliance;
  • Conduct regular review and fair evaluation of employee performance;
  • Maintain fair and equitable promotion and transfer policies;
  • Provide opportunity for adequate financial security at retirement;
  • Maintain occupational safety and health programs and standards;
  • Provide fair and competent management and supervision;
  • Maintain safe working conditions; and
  • Welcome constructive suggestions, and provide the opportunity for employees to express their thoughts in the development of University goals, plans, policies, and procedures.

Loyola's adherence to the above principles acknowledges the dignity of the person, and provides the basis for a harmonious and positively motivated work place. Through these efforts, the University strives to promote the best interests of its employees, and therefore, believes that outside third-party representation of employees is not necessary.

Consistent with being a socially responsible employer, and respecting Jesuit Catholic teachings, Loyola University Chicago acknowledges the right of individuals to organize, and complies with applicable labor laws and regulations. Likewise, we engage in a common goal to successfully accomplish the work, mission, and vision of the University. Subsequently, it is hoped, that our employees are of the conviction that it is better to discuss problems or concerns directly with the University.
