Originally from Birmingham, AL, James Thomas (he/they) earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and their Masters of Science in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University in Bloomington, where they served as the Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development with RPS. James currently serves as the Director of the Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI), where they have spent 5+ years at Loyola working with Mxn of Color, LGBTQ+ Initiatives, Undocumented Student Support, Student Leaders, and institutional policy work. Throughout their career in higher education & student affairs, James has always taken an approach to empower those society have worked to disenfranchise historically while dismantling these systems that fall in their sphere of influence. Outside of his time with Loyola, James serves as a member of the Lighthouse Foundation's Black Queer Caucus and Liason to Lighthouse Church of Chicago, where he continues bringing his passion of helping those society tells to not be heard, find their voice and inform their actions for change to the Chicago community and beyond.
