What is your favorite thing about working at Loyola? I have a great group of coworkers that are extremely dedicated to the work of the School, and I am grateful to know that I can rely on them no matter what the year throws at us! It is also really inspiring and encouraging when I see the work of faculty and members of leadership focused on improving the communities our students teach in.
What is your most memorable achievement as a Loyola employee? Probably pulling off my first Commencement ceremony! When planning first started, I had just come in to my position with very little instruction to reference, so managing all of the moving parts and constant changes that come with Commencement was a real challenge. When it was all over, I sat by the lakefront on the LSC and breathed a huge sigh of relief!
What does Loyola's mission mean to you? When I was considering joining Loyola, one of the major points that confirmed my choice was the dedication to treating the whole person. I have always approached personal and professional relationships and interactions with the mindset of no matter how I perceive someone, they are their own person, with their own challenges and fears. When we recognize this, and let it inform our treatment of one another, whether it be between coworkers, faculty and students or the School of Education’s relationship with its community partners, we provide each other the space and grace to be human, and lean on each other to build both the individual and the community.
What motivates you to succeed each and every day? I am motivated by the hope of a better way of life than we are all currently managing. This year in particular has been incredibly challenging for everyone, but the School of Education’s faculty, leadership and staff have done an incredible amount of work while navigating uncharted waters. Our students and their continued bravery and dedication to their education is motivation for me and the whole school to continue persevering.
Tell us how you show your Rambler pride: I am lucky to be involved with the planning of many of the School of Education’s events, and it is definitely a point of pride to put together these opportunities for students and faculty to be recognized. The School of EdTalks, in particular, provide an amazing stage for our faculty to shine; in sharing their stories and accomplishments, they also inspire prospective and current students, as well as, alumni and community members.
Tell us something most people at Loyola would be surprised to know about you: I am a pretty creative person! My MA and BA are in Art History, and I love to make my own jewelry, paint, cross-stitch, sew and restore old furniture. I’m hoping to take some pottery classes in the future!
