Research Centers

The Sociology Department maintains two research centers, focusing on: 1) urban society and social policy; 2) religion, culture, and knowledge.  Graduate Students have the opportunity to work with these research centers.

  • Center for Urban Research and Learning creates innovative solutions that promote equity and opportunity in communities throughout the Chicago metropolitan region. CURL provides links to regional, national, and international networks in pursuit of new ideas and approaches that address grassroots needs.
  • McNamara Center for the Social Study of Religion is home to faculty research projects and grants, supports graduate students working on dissertations in related topics, and sponsors special events that make social scientific perspectives on religion available to the university and the public.
