Teresa A. Sullivan

About

Teresa Sullivan is the Deputy Director/General Counsel at Legal Aid Chicago. She joined Legal Aid Chicago as a Staff Attorney in the Children and Families Practice Group in 2017 after five years in private practice as a commercial litigator in Chicago. She became a Supervisory Attorney in 2019 and General Counsel in 2022.

As Deputy Director/General Counsel, Teresa partners with the CEO/ED and the Board on developing long‐term operational and strategic plans, leads the administrative management team, and represents Legal Aid Chicago’s interests externally in partnership with the CEO/ED and Chief External Relations Officer. She serves on the Executive Committee and co-manages Union relations with the HR Director. Teresa also manages the legal affairs of Legal Aid Chicago and Legal Action Chicago and provides legal counsel to the Board of Directors, the CEO/ED, and staff. She advises on LSC compliance; risk exposure; major contracts and transactions; labor and employment issues; litigation; and external counsel management.

As a supervisor in the Children & Families Practice Group, she directly represented survivors of domestic and sexual violence in protective order and family law cases and managed the OP Appeals Project in partnership with Dentons. Outside of her work at Legal Aid Chicago, Teresa recently served on the Board of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, having served as Board Chair from November 2017 to June 2022. Before law school, Teresa spent three years as a healthcare consultant and one year as a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs.
