Global financial markets have suffered a series of unprecedented challenges. Bank failures and the threat of bank failures raised alarms; the COVID-led global lockdown of capitalism left the world reeling from the closest thing to a complete economic collapse since at least World War II; new-fangled products have taken center stage with huge digital "currency" capital flows; Special Purpose Acquisition Companies potentially threaten the disclosure regime under the Federal Securities Laws; and the 2022 invasion of Ukraine roiled markets. These challenges have tested our financial regulatory system and the wisdom of regulators overseeing these systems like never before. This conference aims to assess the performance of the regulatory system under these stresses and to distill important lessons for law and policy makers going forward.
