HGSA Hosts Successful 2022 Conference

The 2022 Loyola History Graduate Student Association (HGSA) Conference was a success!

On February 19th and 20th, the HGSA welcomed students and researchers from Loyola and beyond to share and celebrate their work. Entitled “Persevering Through Time: Little Known Histories and Untold Stories,” this year’s conference invited presenters to share historical stories of perseverance. The conference featured traditional research paper presentations, digital humanities projects, and a poster session.

Day 1 of the conference, which was entirely virtual, included presentations and two career panels: one on opportunities in the field of public history, and one on opportunities in historical consulting. A highlight of the day was a talk from author and Public Historian Page Harrington, the event’s keynote speaker. Day 2, which was open to Loyola-affiliated students and faculty only, took place in person. The day’s events included a student panel on graduate school experiences and an undergraduate poster session. The conference wrapped up with a lively reception, in which graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty conversed and celebrated their research.

Conference Co-Chairs Karis Blaker and Madeleine Lawler deserve high praise for making the 2022 conference such a success. A special thanks also goes out to the following student volunteers for their hard work: Matt Amyx, Jenny Barry, Lucas Bensley, Sophie Croll, Mary Cole Daulton, Liz Ferry, Meghan Flannery, Alex Friedlen, Madison Givens, Lily Cate Gunther-Canada, Caroline Handley, Kenleigh Howard, Sean Jacobson, Hannah Lahti, Caroline Lauber, Cate LiaBraaten, Rachel McGough, Matt Norvell, and Emily Paige Taylor.
