William Dunn has been named the new commander of the 018th District Police Department, an area that includes Loyola’s Water Tower Campus.
Dunn is a 28 year veteran of the department having worked in some of Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods. He worked first, as a uniformed narcotics officer in Englewood, to serving as a detective and gang and crime specialist, and finally as a supervisor in the narcotic section prior to being appointed commander of 018th district. Commander Dunn brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Although the 018th District does not have the number of violent or drug related crimes found in other districts, Dunn feels strongly that quality of life issues like aggressive pan handling and drug dealing remain a priority and encourages residents to “always call police” if they see anything strange or feel threatened in anyway.
“I want to thank members of the community for their support. I am looking forward to working with the community on the crime and quality of life issues that are of a concern to everybody. As a lifelong resident of this city, my goal is to make Chicago the safest and most livable city in America. I have high expectations of the dedicated men and women who patrol this community, and I have no doubt they will continue to provide the outstanding service the neighborhood has come to expect,” says Dunn.
Loyola’s Water Tower Campus is located in a thriving and active business district. The Magnificent Mile, Oak and State Street shopping corridors, parks, and schools and churches like Francis Xavier Warde, Holy Name Cathedral and Fourth Presbyterian Church round out this thriving area of the city.
Collaborations with the Chicago Police and Loyola’s department of campus safety continue to remain strong.
Loyola’s officers conduct vehicular and foot patrols in and around the downtown campus to ensure the highest level of safety. They have successfully used their resources to support key Chicago Police safety operations as it relates to Water Tower Campus.
