Project Title: The effect of gender identity on mental health and functioning

Project Abstract: The current study will measure both implicit and explicit constructs including gender attitude, gender self-concept, gender identity, gender stereotypes and self-esteem to examine the effects of conscious and subconscious discrepancies surrounding issues of gender. The study aims to examine the outcomes of discrepancies, specifically across participant gender. We hypothesize that people who experience discrepancies between their self-report of gender identification (e.g., feminine) and implicit gender identification (e.g., masculine) will report higher rates of emotional distress and poorer interpersonal functioning.
