Project Title: Parent-Child Interactions in a Museum: Linkages to STEM
Project Abstract: The primary goal of my research project is to investigate whether and how parent-child conversations can enhance 4- to 8-year-olds¿ learning in a museum exhibit designed to encourage understanding and interest in STEM. Families will be observed building and talking together in the exhibit. Using a unique feature of the exhibit, families will tell a photonarrative story about their building experience using pictures taken as they build. We will examine the content and style of talk to understand ways to enhance children's STEM learning experiences. The work connects with increased societal interest in ways to increase the number of individuals interested in pursuing STEM education and careers.
