As the ministry intern at Misericordia, I have the amazing opportunity to work with the residents as they build their spiritual lives. I attend Mass on Saturdays, sing with the choir, and help with various roles during the Mass. The “Heartzingers” have accepted me into their choir and I get to join their rehearsals once a week! But the main component of my internship is leading faith-based activities in two of the houses weekly. They open their homes to me for dinner and I lead them in a prayer service where I get to watch them grow spiritually. While I am there to guide them in their prayer and reflection, they guide me in my spiritual and personal growth even more. People tend to receive more than they give in settings like this, but it is a feeling you truly have to experience to see that it is true. I have already received so much love and acceptance from the residents and staff and I hope to be able to reciprocate that.
