Vince Renta

Major
Biochemistry

My name is Vince Renta, and I’m from Crown Point, Indiana. My major is Biochemistry and I have a minor in Spanish which I will be studying abroad this year in Spain. I am currently a sophomore and my mentor is Dr. Miguel Ballicora. My biochemistry research focuses on the enzyme responsible for starch synthesis in organisms such as E.coli. I mutate certain amino acids that make up the protein and study the global effects of those mutations on the enzyme’s function and compare that to the enzyme’s normal, natural activity in various chemical environments. My project is titled “The role of Aspartate 141 in the regulation of the Agrobacterium tumefaciens ADP-Glc Pyrophosphorylase.” My hobbies include exercising and viewing art exhibitions.
