The Volunteer Relations department of Catholic Charities primarily oversees the volunteers that serve our members in hundreds of different roles, ranging from serving dinner at our Tuesday Night Suppers or finding free legal representatives for those in need. The department also hosts the Celebration of Giving every holiday season, which aims to provide toys and necessities for underprivileged families in the Chicago area, many being immigrants and refugees. We also collaborate with other departments to host fundraisers and social events to promote our cause. The work is mostly "behind the scenes" rather than being direct service; however, the work is integral as it provides the foundation for which our volunteers can directly provide service. I'm so grateful to have found a home with the Catholic Charities family as a Social Justice Intern this academic year!
