Hanna Sterba is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she was the recipient of the 2006 George F. Goslee prize in bassoon recognizing outstanding artistry. Her principal teachers have included John Clouser and Ronald Phillips.
As a performer, Ms. Sterba held the position of Second Bassoon with the Canton Symphony Orchestra for four seasons, and Wheeling Symphony for two seasons. Additionally, she has enjoyed a varied career as a freelance musician, having played with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Akron Symphony, among many others.
Additionally, Ms. Sterba has performed with many prominent music festivals both in the United States and abroad, including the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, Bellingham Festival of Music, Cayman Arts Festival, Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival and School, Kent/Blossom Music, and Le Domaine Forget.
With a passion for arts education, Ms. Sterba has taught for over a decade and is a weekly coach with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras. In another capacity, she has written and narrated educational outreach programs for Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings, and the Cleveland Institute’s Distance Learning program.
Ms. Sterba maintains an active freelancing career in Chicago, and can be heard performing orchestral, chamber, and solo performances throughout the city. For more information, please visit: www.hannasterba.com.
