Fonts

Consistent use of fonts across Loyola’s many print, electronic, and environmental applications reinforces the University’s identity. Our type families have been selected to be clear, crisp, and boldly simple. We use as few as possible to create a simple, repeatable, reliable system. Only approved brand fonts may be used in advertising and marketing materials representing Loyola, its units, and its programs.

Fonts for branding and marketing

Antenna Condensed

The assertive editorial feel of Antenna Condensed creates a clear typographical hierarchy. It is the primary typeface used in all University standard materials and templates. For simplicity’s sake, use only Condensed Bold and Condensed Light when content is short and meant to be scannable. Antenna Condensed should be used on all advertisements and printed marketing collateral.

Dos and Don'ts

What to do

  • Use as few weights as possible.
  • Establish a strong hierarchy between text blocks to create contrast and aid readability.
  • Apply color to words or phrases to create visual punctuation and interest.
  • All caps organizes and creates emphasis when used judiciously and applied to short passages.
  • Limit the number of weights within a text block to highlight words or phrases.

What not to do

  • Avoid text sizes that are too similar.  The content becomes difficult to differentiate.
  • Avoid text set with low contrast. It is difficult to read — a problem for communication and accessibility.
  • Avoid too much text in all caps. Readability is hindered.
  • Avoid too many weights and emphasis within text. When everything is different, nothing stands apart.
