Scholarship Auditions

Thank you for your interest in the Theatre program at Loyola University Chicago. Loyola’s Theatre Program strives to make the most out of a liberal arts education. Through this program, students cultivate an expansive foundation of all aspects of the art form. This includes a variety of fields ranging from literature, theatre history and criticism to performing, directing and design.

The Theatre Scholarship application cycle for academic year 2025-2026 opens November 1, 2024.

Application Deadline: January 23, 2025

The John T. Trahey Theatre Scholarship is a renewable scholarship awarded to incoming first-year and transfer students. To be considered for this scholarship at Loyola University Chicago, students must complete the scholarship application (link above) and attend an in-person audition/interview on Saturday, January 25, 2025 on Loyola University Chicago's Lakeshore Campus.

Because admission to the major is not contingent upon auditioning, there are no additional audition dates available.

FAQs

Am I required to audition to be a Theatre major?

No, auditions are not required for the major. However, an audition or interview is required for consideration for the competitive scholarships we offer. 

What should I prepare for my audition?

Performers should prepare 2 contrasting selections totaling 3 mins. 1 can be a musical selection.

Designers and technicians are also highly encouraged to apply and should bring evidence of their work.
Suitable material could include: photographs, prompt books, sketches, or technical drawings.

Do I have to audition if I am a designer or technician?

Designers and technicians will also be considered for scholarship and are also highly encouraged to complete the same application for an interview. For the interview, please bring evidence of your work. Suitable material could include: photographs, prompt books, sketches, and/or technical drawings.

When should I apply to Loyola University Chicago?

We highly recommend that you apply to Loyola University Chicago prior to your audition/interview date. Awarding of scholarship is contingent upon admission to Loyola University Chicago.

When can I schedule my interview/audition?

After submitting the application for Theatre Scholarship Audition listed above, the Department of Fine and Performing Arts will correspond with you with additional details.

Is there an application fee required for the audition?

No, there is no fee for neither the audition nor admission to the University!

Should I bring a headshot to my interview/audition?

You will need to upload these materials to your application, but otherwise, you are not required to bring these with you in person.

What should I wear to my interview/audition?

Applicants should wear comfortable clothing. Formal wear is not required.

Can I bring props and/or costumes to my audition?

No, props and costumes are not permitted at the audition.

Will accompaniment be provided?

No, but we would be happy to provide an amplifier or speaker if you provide the sound file on your phone or other electronic device. If you have a newer iPhone, please also bring the appropriate adapter.

What if I am unable to attend my interview/audition?

Because entry into the major is not contingent upon auditioning, we do not offer additional audition dates other than those listed.
