Stritch Speech and Debate Team (SSDT)
Stritch Speech and Debate Team
Public speaking is one of the most common fears among students, especially for those in high school. While courses and seminars exist to provide students with the skill, such resources are usually reserved for college students. Unfortunately, there is no regulation of public speaking courses within the Illinois school system and, as such, high school students are not provided with the resources to fine-tune their skills. The goal of the Stritch Speech and Debate Team (SSDT) is to bridge that gap.
The SSDT seeks to provide students with the necessary tools to become effective communicators. The ultimate goal is not only to give them the confidence to speak publicly but also to gain skills in research, advocacy, critical thinking, teamwork, and interpersonal communication. In doing so, this organization hopes to give students the necessary instruments to speak up on matters that are important to them.
