One Medicine Interest Group (OMIG)

One Medicine Interest Group

One Medicine refers to the interdisciplinary study of the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. Recent zoonotic outbreaks, evolving effects of climate change, and novel discoveries of identical manifestations of maladies between humans and animals implores current students of human medicine to consider the knowledge of adjacent medical studies in their own lifelong education. Through synergistic multidisciplinary conversation, our collective understanding of medicine will flourish.

The One Medicine Interest Group (OMIG) serves to introduce students of Stritch School of Medicine to this novel and rapidly-evolving area of study through opportunities to connect with healthcare professionals from a diverse array of academic backgrounds. Monthly conferences will focus on one broad topic, with brief presentations from multiple professionals of analogous specialization. Students will be able to learn about the subject from multiple perspectives, considering how both the similarities, and the differences, will allow their own understanding of global health to grow.

Mentorship

The Academic Medicine Mentorship Program aims to introduce medical students to a career in academic medicine by matching the interests and needs of medical students and physicians to create a mutually beneficial program. This program enables medical students to gain experience in academic medicine through leadership development and scholarly pursuits. Mentor-mentee pairs will be supported throughout the year with mentoring resources, asynchronous journal clubs, live discussions, and networking activities.
