MASTER of ARTS in Bioethics & Health Policy

A successful experience in online educational programs depends on the quality of the students and the faculty's dedication. Our students -- from throughout the country -- typically have advanced or professional degrees in a variety of disciplines. This program attracts physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, health care administrators, lawyers, researchers, and even a few Stritch School of Medicine's physicians-in-training.

Faculty are trained in a variety of disciplines: law, medical humanities, philosophy, psychology, public health, theology, and healthcare ethics. Because of the commitment of our faculty, we are proud of a low attrition rate; students typically complete the program in two to three years.

FAQs

Do I need to maintain continuous registration?

The professional doctorate, master's and certificate programs require continuous registration (excluding summer). Students who matriculate into this program should register for at least one course a semester. The program cannot accommodate students who are unable to maintain continuous registration. Before applying, please make sure that you can commit the time and resources to fulfill the demands of the program.

What are requirements for international applicants?

International applicants must have all transcripts evaluated and provide Loyola’s Graduate School Administration office with the evaluation. All international applicants must submit a score from the TOEFL exam. Read additional information HERE.

What background is required?

Admission will be based on demonstrated ability in related professional and academic experience. Typical applicants to the Master's and Doctoral degree programs should have an advanced academic (PhD, MA, MS) or professional degree (MD, DO, DDS, PharmD, JD, BSN, MSN, MSW, STD, DMin, MPH, or similar degree) and work experience in a related profession. Applicants who do not have a graduate or professional degree but are simultaneously pursuing another graduate or professional degree may submit MCAT, LSAT, or GMAT scores in lieu of the GRE (not required). Applicants who have a bachelor’s degree and are not currently pursuing other professional studies are encouraged to apply to the certificate program. The certificate program may be taken as a stand-alone certificate; some students pursue the certificate as a point of entry into the MA program.

What if I want to take only one course?

If you want to enroll in one course, apply as a non-degree seeking student as long as you have a BA or BS degree. To apply for admission for one course, applicants are required to submit one set of official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended.
