2020-2021 Ricci Scholars
Samantha Chipman, from Willmette, Illinois, is a member of the Interdisciplinary Honors Program. She is majoring in English with double minors in Chinese and philosophy. Her research compares Italian and Vietnamese religious ritual practices and burial rites. Inspired by her Chinese heritage, her project draws from her interest in Chinese philosophy and connecting with cultures around the globe. Samantha's Ricci project has introduced her to topics including end of life care and cultural considerations to funerals. Her interdisciplinary work has ignited a curiosity in bioethics. She will present her Ricci project at the Association for Death Education and Counseling as a poster. Her Ricci research has also helped enable her to secure a position as a summer Graduate Bioethics Intern at the Mayo Clinic in 2022.
Emma Mitchell, from Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, is a member of the Interdisciplinary Honors Program. She is majoring in religious studies with minors in mathematics; Catholic studies; peace, justice, and conflicts; and French language and literature. Emma’s research will focus on the formation of Catholic priests in Italy and Vietnam, analyzing the intersection of cultural and sociological trends within the organization of religion.
Ramat Mohammed, from Lemont, Illinois, is majoring in international business with a minor in marketing. Her research explores the processes of non-governmental organizations in Rome and Ho Chi Minh City. She hopes to discover the extent of outreach of NGOs and the methods utilized by these organizations to give aid to those in need. Her inspiration for this topic comes from her personal life experiences growing up in Ghana and seeing firsthand how people and organizations can serve others.
Abigail Peterson, from Madison, Wisconsin, is majoring in marketing with a minor in non-profit management. Her project addresses unethical digital advertising and consumer protection. She will focus on companies in the sports and beauty industries, specifically analyzing how they use consumer information to advertise and the ethical implications of their methods. Abby has recently presented her Ricci talk at her job as a Communications Account Coordinator at CBIZ. After finishing her bachelor's degree, she is on track to earn her MBA at Loyola.
2022 Ricci Dinner
For the first time in two years, the 2020-2021 Riccis, 2021-2022 new Riccis, Dr. Mine Cinar, and Dr. Scott Hendrickson were able to have a Ricci dinner at Bistronomic in downtown Chicago. Here they are enjoying the festivities!
