Bio
Vincent Samar is Advanced Lecturer in Philosophy, Associate Faculty Member in the Graduate School, and Adjunct Professor of Law at Loyola University Chicago. He received his LLM from Harvard Law School, where he studied under Martha Minow, his JD/MPA from Syracuse University, and his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Chicago, where he studied under Alan Gewirth (Philosophy), Russell Hardin (Philosophy and Political Science), and Cass Sunstein (Law and Political Science). His areas of specialization are philosophy of law, constitutional and international law, political philosophy, and ethics. He has also taught courses in logic, introduction to philosophy,
introduction to law, and classical modern: Descartes, Locke, Hume, and Kant.
Samar has published two books, Justifying Judgment: Practicing Law and Philosophy (University of Kansas Press, 1998) and The Right to Privacy: Gays, Lesbians and the Constitution (Temple University Press, 1991), three book chapters, and thirty-eight articles mostly in law reviews, and four review articles. He edited The Gay Rights Movement - The New York Times Twentieth Century in Review, with an introduction by Andrew Sullivan. He has also published and offered commentary and letters to various news organizations including the International Herald Tribune, New York Times 0n-line, Chicago Sun-Times, Windy City Times, among many others. And he has been interviewed on Chicago Tonight, The Newshour with Jim Lehrer, and in other media venues and a podcast.
