Enrollment Statistics

The intended purpose of these documents is for external auditors to assess the financial health and stability of the institution. Other users may also find them helpful for their own purposes. These documents compare a term’s enrollment figures to the same term one year prior (fall to fall or spring to spring). These enrollment snapshots are taken on each term’s census date (45th calendar day for Fall 2023 onwards, or previously the 15th calendar day). In this unduplicated count, each student is represented one time, in the school which is associated with their primary academic plan (first major). Depending on the level, students may be further subdivided by full-time status or by degree versus certificate. The first set of four columns display the count of students and credit hours, and the second set of four columns show the year-over-year difference in the figures (current year minus prior year) as well as the percent change (difference divided by value in prior year).

  • School assignments for both current year and prior year are based on the school assignments of the current year. Therefore, if an academic program switched from school A in the prior year to school B in the current year, students will be displayed as in school B in both years. We do not want to make it seem as if a school had a huge spike or drop in enrollment when a program moves schools. For instance, if you look at the Fall 2018 Nursing Undergraduate Full-Time in the 2018 By School and 2019 By School reports, the amount of Nursing students decreased, because some academic plans were moved to the Parkinson HSPH.
  • Pay attention to both the number change and percent change, as low enrollment programs are susceptible to large percentage changes.
  • All credit hours for a student will be assigned to the school that they are assigned. For instance, if a full-time undergrad in the School of Communication is taking 9 credit hours in School of Communications, 3 in School of Social Work and 3 in Arts & Sciences, all 15 credit hours will be counted in the School of Communications.
  • Over time, school names have changed, and academic plans have switched schools. The further back in time, the more changes will exist.
  • Doctoral students may have relatively low credit hours, as Dissertation Supervision is 0 credit hours.
