Captain Edward Sooy, Assistant Professor of Military Science

Captain Edward Sooy was born in Somers Point, New Jersey where he grew up in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from West Virginia University in May 2018. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery and completed Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sill in 2018.

CPT Sooy was initially assigned to Fort Polk, Louisiana with 1st Battalion - Airborne, 509th Infantry Geronimo where he served as a Company FSO. During that time, he took part in 16 JROTC rotations.

After Folk Polk, CPT Sooy was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he was a lead in running the Basic Training Covid-19 Quarantine unit. During this time at any given point, he was directly responsible for the lives of up to 843 trainees in quarantine. Once promoted to Captain, he moved to his control branch of Military Intelligence.

CPT Sooy graduated from the Military Intelligence Career Course (MICCC) at Fort Huachuca in 2021. Upon completing MICCC, he was assigned to 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas. During this time, he took over as the Battalion S2 Officer. While serving as the S2 OIC, the battalion supported War Fighter Exercises and multiple international training events.

CPT Sooy's awards and decorations include Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Service Medal.
