Previously, Alberto was the CIO at American Electric Power (AEP) for the last 5+ years. AEP is a Fortune 200 company and one of the largest electric utilities in the U.S., serving nearly 5.4 million customers with approximately 20,000 employees and contractors. The company’s territory spans 11 states and 200,000+ square miles. In this role, Alberto managed an IT organization of 1500+ employees and contractors, an expense budget of $150M+ and a capital budget of $300M+.
Prior to AEP, Alberto was an Executive Vice President in the IT consulting practice of The Revere Group, a subsidiary of NTT DATA (a global system integrator based in Japan), the VP of Process and IT (a CIO-equivalent position) for the $1.3B Americas division of Kerry (a global wholesale food ingredients company based in Ireland), and a Senior Manager in the IT consulting practice of Deloitte.
Alberto has been an active contributor to the improvement of policy, research and best practices in IT in the utility industry through: Utility Information Technology Benchmark, Electric Power Research Institute, and Edison Electric Institute. Alberto has also contributed to improving the IT industry through Board participation at Columbus Collaboratory L.L.C. and Tech Corps.
Alberto has been a panelist at industry events (e.g., for IBM, GE Digital, etc.) speaking on IT and cyber security-related topics. He has also testified in Washington D.C. to a House Subcommittee and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on cyber security-related topics. Alberto enjoys being a guest lecturer at undergraduate and graduate schools – over the years, Alberto has been a guest lecturer at Northwestern, Ohio State, Illinois Institute of Technology, DePaul and Loyola (in Chicago).
Alberto received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from Yale University and a Masters in Business Administration at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
Alberto has been married to Regina for almost 30 years and they have three beautiful and talented children.
