Gradescope

  • Features
    • Answer grouping. Gradescope uses AI in conjunction with OCR (optical character recognition) to analyze student responses and automatically group similar answers together, helping instructors efficiently review and grade large volumes of submissions. This feature is available during the grading workflow.
  • Use Cases
    • Instructors and teaching assistants can benefit from Gradescope’s AI-powered features that streamline the collection, grading, and return of assessments to students. Answer grouping also facilitates the application of consistent feedback across multiple submissions. Students benefit from a quicker turnaround time for grading assignments, allowing for the provision of timely, detailed feedback. 

Copilot

  • Features  
    • Conversational AI chat. Copilot Chat (Basic) provides a web-based AI chat experience that enables users to generate text, brainstorm ideas, summarize content, and ask questions in natural language. Access Copilot Chat directly through the Copilot web interface.
    • Content generation. Prompt Copilot Chat to draft written content, compose images, or summarize text pasted into the chat. This functionality is limited to content provided to Copilot by the user; Copilot Chat (Basic) does not have access to Loyola files or systems.
  • Use Cases 
    • Brainstorm ideas, generate draft content, ask Copilot for revision suggestions, and simplify complex topics.
    • Generate graphics for webpages or online course content.
    • Create assignment rubrics to provide students with targeted feedback.
    • Students can support their study habits by asking Copilot to provide practice assessment questions, flashcard topics, or chapter outlines based on uploaded class notes.
  • User Data & Privacy 
    • Copilot Chat (Basic) uses enterprise data protection when accessed through a Loyola account, meaning that prompts and responses are not used to train underlying AI models.

Elai

  • Features
    • AI avatars. Elai features digital human presenters to narrate videos.
    • AI script generation. Use AI to help compose video scripts.
    • AI video generation from input. Elai allows users to quickly generate videos from a script, prompt, or slide deck.
  • Use Cases
    • Create explainer videos or summaries of complex topics or academic articles for just-in-time learning support.
    • Introduce students to a course, department, or program of study. Walk students through course tools (e.g., Sakai) or expectations.
    • Deliver general advising information (e.g., registration tips or key dates) to students, freeing up advisors for more complex tasks and one-on-one interaction.
    • Create tailored content on topics such as study skills, time management, or student mental health resources.
    • Help new hires understand your team’s key processes, workflows, and resources.
    • Provide walkthroughs of institutional resources and policies. Automate solutions to frequently asked questions. 
  • User Data & Privacy
    • Elai collects and processes only the data necessary to provide and operate its services including account information (such as name and email), user-generated inputs like scripts, uploaded media (images, audio, video), and content created within the platform. User content is not sold and is only shared with service providers or third parties when necessary for service operation, legal compliance, or security requirements.

Labster

  • Features
    • Syllabus mapping. Faculty can upload a course syllabus as a PDF and Labster's AI syllabus mapping tool provides recommended lab simulations that align with the course learning outcomes.
  • Use Cases
    • Instructors and instructional designers can quickly assess the applicability of Labster's content to specific courses. Identify simulations that can replace in-person labs or provide supplemental instruction for learning outcomes students struggle with.
  • User Data & Privacy
    • Labster stores personal information in "aggregate, de-identified, or anonymized formats" where practical.

Minitab

  • Features  
    • Natural language explanations. Explain statistical results and technical outputs in clear, plain language to make complex analyses more accessible to users at all experience levels. These explanations are available within the Minitab Solution Center interface as part of analysis workflows.
    • AI-assisted brainstorming. Minitab provides AI-supported idea generation to help users explore approaches, identify variables, and accelerate problem-solving during project planning or analysis.
    • Automated dashboard generation. Create dashboards from uploaded data, suggesting relevant visualizations, metrics, and layouts to help users quickly interpret and present insights. This functionality is accessible within the dashboard and visualization tools in the Minitab Solution Center.
  • User Data & Privacy
    • Minitab states that it does not retain or use user inputs or AI-generated outputs to train its models. Information about Minitab’s use of personal data is available on their Privacy Policy webpage.

NVIVO

  • Features
    • NVivo AI Assistant provides users with the automated options outlined below. Loyola users can submit a ticket to the ITS Service Desk to request access to this functionality.
    • Summarization. The AI Assistant: Summarize option allows users to automatically generate summaries of selected items, including audio, video, PDF documents, codes, and cases. The AI Assistant: Summarize Text option allows users to summarize selected text in the preferred language and length or expound on the selected text.
    • Coding suggestions. The AI Assistant: Suggest Child Codes option can generate child codes based on selected coded content. 
  • Use Cases
    • NVivo can be used for personal research, teaching, and learning for the Loyola user community. It helps the user analyze interviews, focus groups, or open-ended survey responses.
    • When working with data collection, the AI Assistant helps to automate summaries, highlight themes and patterns in qualitative data, and offer suggestions for codes.

  • User Data & Privacy
    • Lumivero follows a strict zero-data retention policy in its agreement with OpenAI. This ensures that OpenAI does not use any information processed by the Lumivero AI Assistant to train its language models. Additionally, the data is not stored on OpenAI servers and is deleted immediately after the summary or analysis is completed.

Piazza

  • Features
    • Folder summarization. When enabled, a Folder Summary panel appears beneath the Class at a Glance section. Users can select folders with at least five posts from a dropdown to generate individualized summaries of activity within that folder.
    • Followup summarization. When enabled, any post with 5 or more followup comments will display a Summarize button. When selected, a summary of the followup comments will appear for everyone that can view the post. An updated summary can be generated once new followup comments are made. 
  • Use Cases
    • Instructors can synthesize long discussion threads or high-volume Q&A without reading every response.
    • Instructors and students can quickly identify key themes, clarifications, or resolutions within course discussions. 
  • User Data & Privacy
    • At this time, Piazza does not provide publicly available documentation specific to how AI-generated summarization features use or retain user data. Users should refer to the general Piazza support and policy resources for updates.

Turnitin

  • Features
    • AI writing detection. Review submitted student writing for AI-generated writing in qualifying text (300 words of prose-form text), assigning a percentage of likely AI-generated writing. This percentage represents the likelihood of AI-generated writing of 40% or more throughout the submission, and as of July 2024, provides a separate score for AI-paraphrased writing.    
  • Use Cases
    • Instructors can use the Turnitin AI Writing Detection Tool to prompt discussion on intellectual property and academic integrity within their course and related disciplines and professions. The tool does not provide student-facing access, so the instructor can share such reports to facilitate collaboration with students on appropriate AI uses in scholarly and professional research processes. A Turnitin AI Writing Detection score is not direct evidence of academic misconduct and should not be used as such.
  • User Data & Privacy
    • As a feature in Turnitin Originality reports, the AI Writing Detection Tool is included within the family of Turnitin products regarding user privacy. Student work submitted to the Turnitin standard paper repository are stored in the global Turnitin repository to use against other submissions for originality.

Zoom

  • Features
    • AI Companion. Zoom's AI Companion provides real-time meeting support, including automatic note-taking, summaries, and a chat-based assistant that participants can ask questions during or after a meeting. It is accessible within Zoom meetings when enabled by the host and in the Zoom desktop application.
    • Whiteboard. Generate structured Whiteboard content from prompts to quickly generate diagrams, brainstorm layouts, or project frameworks directly within the Whiteboard tool.
    • Smart recording with AI Companion. Automatically divide cloud recordings into smart chapters for easy review, highlight important information, and create next steps for attendees to put into action.
  • Use Cases
    • Instructors can provide summaries of class meetings using the AI Companion feature. Students can ask questions about what was covered during a class meeting for review or in the event of an absence.
    • Instructors can create Whiteboard content on-the-fly during class meetings to supplement live lectures or to provide student collaboration spaces for class activities.
    • Tip: In the LUC Zoom web portal, turn on Zoom AI Companion as a meeting default for meetings in which you are a Host to maintain automated records and notes of live meetings.
