Big Shoulders Fund

Loyola University Chicago’s Center for Science and Math Education (Loyola CSME) and Big Shoulders Fund (BSF) is in its 11th year of partnership. The primary goal of the partnership is to support teachers’ use of instructional strategies that promote a positive climate and culture aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

During the 2019-20 school year, K-5 teachers of science from four participating schools experienced 21 hours of professional learning (PL) and worked with an instructional coach monthly to follow up with classroom implementation. Support focused on implementing high-quality NGSS-aligned science instruction by using the Full Option Science System (FOSS) curricular materials and supporting teacher collaboration within and across participating BSF network schools.
