Historically, The office of the registrar and the registrar's function date back to the great medieval universities of Bologna, Paris, and Oxford. Today, here at Loyola University Chicago, the Office of Registration and Records exists to serve the needs of the students, to respond to requests of the faculty and administration for data, and to safeguard the integrity of the students' education record. The office also serves external audiences such as employers seeking degree verification and alumni who request copies of their transcripts.
Loyola University Chicago is a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). The Office of Registration of Records has adopted the best practices of member post-secondary educational institutions. Guided by FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) The Office of Registration and Records affirms its essential obligation to the management and security of Loyola University Chicago student education records and adheres to the records retention policies set forth by AACRAO in Retention of Records, Guide for Retention and Disposal of Student Records (2010).
