Remarks by Gordom Ramsey, Faculty Council President, Concerning 2012 Award Winner

PAMELA CAUGHIE—FACULTY MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD (2012)

It is once again my privilege to present the Faculty Member of the Year Award.

Faculty members are nominated by you, the faculty, from all of Loyola’s schools and colleges. An awards committee of Faculty Council selects finalists and the final selection is approved by the entire elected membership of your Faculty Council.

This year, I am pleased to announce that the committee unanimously recommended that Professor Pamela Caughie of the Department of English, be honored as the 2012 Faculty Member of the Year. Pamela received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. She has excelled in all areas of teaching, research and service

Professor Caughie is a highly dedicated teacher. She teaches courses at all levels at Loyola and has mentored many undergraduate and graduate students.

Since joining Loyola 25 years ago, Professor Caughie’s impressive research has resulted in numerous books and book chapters, editions, journal articles, reviews and invited lectures. She has received a sizable grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Professor Caughie has served on numerous committees, both inside and outside of the university, including Faculty Council. Professor Caughie is also the director of the Women’s Studies Program and President of Loyola’s AAUP Chapter. She was instrumental in advancing the English Department’s initiative in Textual Studies and Digital Humanities.

She is a faculty member who deserves to be recognized for her outstanding achievements in teaching, scholarship and service, in the Jesuit tradition. On behalf of Faculty Council and all of her colleagues, it is my pleasure to publicly recognize Professor Pamela Caughie as Loyola’s 2012 faculty member of the year, which includes this beautiful plaque and, perhaps even more importantly, a check for $2,000.

Could you please join me in congratulating Pamela Caughie?
