Student Move in 2016
Lake Shore Campus
As we enter into the last months of summer, Loyola University Chicago is preparing for the 2016-2017 Academic Year. In two weeks, we will be welcoming a record class of 2700 first year students for a total of 4600 new and returning students to on-campus housing. As we have done during the past twelve years, we are sending this courtesy letter to inform you of the move-in activities taking place at the Lake Shore Campus on Monday, August 22 through Saturday, August 27, 2016.
Loyola move-in staff and volunteers will be organizing and assisting students as they move into residence halls across campus. Friday, August 26, we will host freshman convocation and no move-in will take place. Please take note of the following days and times during which the City has provided a permit to designate “no parking” on area streets to facilitate move in. This will help us accommodate the families and students that will be unloading vehicles.
We have heard and responded to the parking hardships experienced by our neighbors and eliminated Sunday as a move-in day. Thanks to your helpful feedback and more streamlined planning we have reduced the overall number of streets and amount of days by 40% with parking restrictions to further alleviate strain on street parking. If your vehicle is parked on one of these streets during the days/times listed, it will be towed at your expense. The City of Chicago will no longer allow us to relocate cars.
Finally, as you know, many upper-class students rent apartments in the area that are not operated by the university. While we do not make special arrangements for these moves, I have requested a special attention to no-parking areas around Loyola University with Streets and Sanitation. The requested attention includes Loyola, Albion, Arthur, Northshore, Columbia, Wayne, Lakewood, Kenmore, and Winthrop. I do not wish to bother our neighbors any more than we have to with student cars illegally parked in tow-zones, blocking fire hydrants, or blocking driveways and alleys. If these students take an illegal parking risk, they should face the consequences.
Thank you very much for your patience during this hectic week. If you have any questions, need any further information, or experience any undue hardships relating to move-in, please, do not hesitate to call me at 773.508.7450 or email communityrelations@luc.edu .
