Michael has a Ph.D. in Literary Studies with a concentration in Russian and Central European literature from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also received an MA and BA.
In addition to studying literature, he did graduate coursework in linguistics, translation studies, and participated in workshops and conferences on second language acquisition.
Michael teaches English 100 (Developmental Writing) and UCWR 110. He has also been an instructor for an array of courses in the English Language Learning Program (ELLP), including Beginning Writing, Advanced Reading, and Standard American Pronunciation.
In addition, he has taught American short fiction, Russian language and literature, and cultural studies courses.
Michael enjoys going to the Art Institute, listening to music of all kinds, and cooking foods from different parts of the world.
