Lydia Craig is a third year PhD candidate in English specializing in Victorian Studies. Craig’s dissertation project analyzes literary and societal responses to various kinds of social climbers from the Early Modern to the late Victorian periods. Besides studying imagery, Biblical and literary influences, and class and gender issues in the novels the Brontës, Charles Dickens, and Joseph Conrad, her research interests also span 18th century naval warfare, Enlightenment philosophy, Early American literature, and the history of periodicals. She likes to travel and go boating on the weekend.
