My name is Jesse McDowell and I'm a first year Ph.D. student in the English Department here at Loyola. Previously, I served as a lecturer in the First Year Writing Program at NC State University. My research interests include Medieval English Manuscripts, Early British (Anglo-Saxon) literature & linguistics, and Digital Humanities. In my spare time, I like to attend workshops in manuscript studies mostly; I often find myself often at Yale's Beinecke Library, the British Library, and other institutions who hold workshops in digitization and paleography. My writing pedagogy comes as an amalgam of these interests in tandem to teaching composition and its practice; I try to incorporate the history of writing as an invitation to college writers for encouragement and edification. While I'm not doing any of that, I try to spend time outdoors as much as possible (things like hiking, climbing, biking, etc).
