Make an Appointment
Last updated July 29, 2024
The WLA reading room is open by appointment only. We are available to provide remote assistance to researchers, answer reference requests, and accept donations by mail with advance notice.
To make an appointment, please email WLArchives@luc.edu with the following information:
- The name of the collection and boxes you would like to see.
- Some possible days and times for an appointment, allowing at least 1-3 business days from the time of your request.
Scheduling Availability
Appointments may be made Monday-Friday, starting no earlier than 9am and concluding by 4:30pm. The WLA may consider evening or weekend appointments for special circumstances only (ie. visiting from out of state). Requests for visits outside of our normal business hours require at least 2 weeks notice and are subject to approval of the WLA Director.
To provide the best service possible, the WLA typically does not honor same day appointment requests.
Loyola University Chicago observes the following holidays. Accordingly, the WLA will be closed:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Good Friday
- Memorial Day
- Juneteenth
- July 4th
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Day after Thanksgiving
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day (The WLA is typically closed between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.)
Please follow our homepage and Facebook for the most up to date information on closures.
If you are running late, or can no longer make your appointment, please call 773.508.8837 to let us know prior to the start time of your appointment. Please note that this number cannot receive text messages. We can typically only still honor your appointment if you are fewer than 15 minutes behind.
Appointments will be canceled by WLA staff if the researcher:
- Does not provide collection information in advance of their visit
- Arrives after the appointed start time without contacting the WLA prior to the agreed upon start time that they will be no more than 15 minutes late
- Repeatedly no-shows for appointments (fails to come to appointments without notification)
If the above occurs repeatedly, researchers may be asked to refrain from making future appointments with the WLA for a set period of time, to be determined by WLA staff and communicated to the researcher.
