The Center for Tutoring and Academic Excellence recruits outstanding students to tutor in most academic subjects, depending on the demand for tutoring.
Peer Tutors must have at least a 3.0 GPA and must have completed the courses they wish to tutor with at least an A-. They must also have 2 faculty recommendations and excellent communication skills.
LUC Peer Tutors are required to complete 10 hours of formal training in their first year of employment. The Center Director trains Peer Tutors to help students become independent learners and improve their overall study skills. They also participate in subject-specific group trainings throughout the academic year to increase their understanding of their subject areas.
More experienced tutors also have the opportunity to apply to become Tutor Leaders. In this advanced role, they offer mentorship to newer tutors and lead subject-specific group trainings.
Peer tutor positions are competitive, as tutoring is an excellent opportunity to assist others, build communication and leadership skills, strengthen academice knowledge, and build a resume.
