Summer FAQ's
Below are the most frequently asked questions about the program.
What is included in the cost of the program?
- All meals and snacks
- Lodging in the residence halls
- Transportation to and from the airport/train station and Loyola University Chicago
- Transportation within Chicago for field trips throughout the week
- Supplies
- THEA T-shirt
What to pack
- Comfortable shoes and clothing (lots of walking)
- Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
- Bathing suit
- Beach towel
- Sunscreen
- Pillow (if you want your own)
- Extra blanket for the dorm room
- iPad (not mandatory, but could be useful for group projects)
What NOT to pack
- Sheets, pillow and blanket (provided, however, feel free to bring your own for additional comfort)
- Beds are size Twin XL
- Drugs
- Alcohol
Do we accommodate food allergies and specific diets?
Yes, we accommodate all dietary restrictions and preferences, including vegan and gluten-free diets.
Will the THEA experience feel like school?
The THEA Institute is designed to be engaging through a wide variety of hands-on activities from field trips around the city of Chicago to service projects to small group reflection to recreational time at the beach.
THEA will give you a wonderful way to experience what living on a college campus is like.
What happens in case of an emergency?
In the case of an emergency with a youth participant, Loyola staff will contact the individual(s) listed on the youth participant's medical form and contract medical professionals immediately, if medical attention is required.
If there is an emergency in the youth participant's family, please contact the Program Director, Steven Betancourt, at sbetancourt@LUC.edu to discuss the situation and coordinate logistics.
