No. of Students: 5
Site: LUMC/HVA/GTB
Supervisor: Kristin Baldea, MD
Duration: 2 or 4 weeks
Periods Offered: Year round*
Prerequisite:

None - available to M3 or M4 students.

Special Note: Urology can accommodate a total of 5 students at any one time for all rotations. If there is a conflict, then preference is given to students planning Urology as a potential career and selecting UROL-401 (Urology Sub-Internship).
Description:

This elective will introduce the student to the basics of urologic disease, diagnostic approaches and the treatment of urologic problems. Emphasis will be placed on giving the student a working knowledge of common urologic problems that they will encounter in any field, such as prostate disease, urinary incontinence, urethral strictures, kidney stones, and urologic cancers.  Students will participate in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, operative management, and weekly departmental conferences.

Students will be assigned a faculty mentor to optimize their experience.

Students are able to customize their rotation to their interests; for example, those planning to pursue pediatrics may spend time with the Pediatric Urology faculty or those planning to pursue family medicine may spend more time in the General Urology clinic. We encourage students to reach out the clerkship director (Kristin Baldea- kbaldea@lumc.edu) if they have questions about which Urology rotation is best for them and how to tailor their experience.

Method of Evaluation: Evaluation will be on the basis of the student's overall participation on the service and graded on a PASS/FAIL only basis.
