Description: The goals of this four-week elective are to learn about the appropriate use of antibiotics, become familiar with common infections disease processes and their treatment and gain a knowledge of the clinical microbiology testing important in patient care. Students will obtain history and physical examinations and formulate assessments on patients for whom Infectious Diseases consultation is sought. Students will present new consult patient(s) to the attending on rounds and be responsible for seeing assigned follow-up patients daily. Students will participate in weekly Infectious Diseases Conferences and make at least one presentation to the Infectious Diseases rounding team.  
Method of Evaluation:

A. Case presentations and follow up.
B. Participation in conferences.
C. Multiple choice question packet given at the beginning of the rotation.

This course is graded Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail.
