On the first day of the rotation, please report to Floor 6 East in Bldg 200 (hospital building), where the Renal Dialysis Unit and Renal offices and conference rooms are located.

There are lectures for residents and students held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00am in the Renal Conference Room at Loyola. There is a different lecture by a different Renal attending each time. Students enrolled in the Nephrology elective at both Loyola and Hines are encouraged to attend.

Elective is Monday-Friday.

Students are exposed to all aspects of nephrology - electrolyte, water, acid base metabolism; hypertension, both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, including continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis - on the consultation service. Students are expected to attend and participate in two didactic lectures each week, two conferences each week and daily rounds.

In addition the students will attend one day per week of the outpatient Nephrology clinic on Tuesdays from 8:30AM to noon. Here students will be exposed to refractory HTN, nephrolithiasis, chronic kidney disease, and other glomerular and tubulointerstitial diseases.

Evaluation based on: 
a. Participation in ward rounds. 
b. Oral case presentations during ward review conferences. 
c. Review of histories and physicals written in charts and consultation sheets. 
d. Clinic patient evaluations and written chart notes.
e. Interest in reviewing important publications.  

This course is graded Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail.
