SNaHP Statement of Purpose

In line with Loyola’s commitment to social justice, the medical students of Loyola Stritch have formed a chapter of Students for a National Health Program (SNaHP), a subgroup of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP). Our mission is to serve members through education, training, and advocacy efforts toward the goal of a comprehensive, high-quality, publicly-funded health care program. PNHP opposes for-profit control, and especially corporate control, of the health system and favors democratic control, public administration and single-payer financing. In line with the views of PNHP, we strive for equitable access, which requires removal of the barriers to adequate health care currently faced by the uninsured, the poor, minority populations and immigrants, both documented and undocumented. We will focus on single-payer advocacy and healthcare reform proposals by holding talks and advocacy activities on the direction of healthcare, such as reform after the Affordable Care Act and current bills at the state and federal levels. We will foster opportunities for collaboration and networking amongst the other SNaHP medical school chapters in Chicago by participating in conferences and other events.

This organization has an affiliation with a "parent" organization, such as a local, regional or national chapter.  The name of this organization is Students for a National Health Program (which is a subgroup of Physicians for a National Health Program). Understanding that the constitutions and procedures of this parent organization may periodically conflict with the requirements and mission of Loyola University of Chicago, we agree that anytime there is a conflict, the requirements and policies of Loyola University will take precedence.
