Medical French Interest Group

The purpose of this group is to introduce students French language / culture, develop a cultural awareness of French speaking communities domestically and abroad, develop simple language skills in French dialogue as well as in physician-patient interactions, and introduce students to non-for-profit organizations like “Medecins Sans Frontieres” or “Doctors Without Borders.”

The aim of this group is to allow students to add another dynamic to their competency as a physician. The aim of this group is to be able to influence physicians domestically but even more so abroad during mission trips and international work whether it be in Canada, Haiti, Algeria, or Sub-Saharan Africa.

The goals and functions of this group are to introduce French as a dialogue and slowly allow students to develop medical terminology and phrases in French such as “What brings you to the clinic today.” To accomplish this, I would like to partner with French-speaking physicians from Haiti, Morocco, and Canada (all currently practicing at Loyola) to develop a professional curriculum that will teach students to address French-speaking populations properly. There are several French news sources that speak about conflicts in the world. I would introduce these sources weekly to raise awareness about issues. I also would like to develop a fun way to allow students to live French culture through rich music and food.

I believe that there is a need in students who would like to work abroad. Their mission will probably take them somewhere that speaks French. I have specifically spoken with students who would enjoy working with “Doctors Without Borders” and have made a poll of students who desire to work with medical french and arabic. I believe that medical french will allow them to broaden their horizons and accomplish their goals.
