Curriculum Year Directors Charge

Curriculum Year Directors Charge

The Curriculum Year Directors (CYDs) is a CCA subcommittee of the CCA.  Any curricular recommendations proposed by the CYD should be presented to the CCA.

The CYD oversees curricular content and integration across all four years.  They collaborate on initiatives which result in recommended changes in individual courses and clerkships, as well as changes across educational sequences (course, clerkship, and vertically integrated curricula).

The CYDs will:

  • Consider changes, additions, or deletions to the curriculum.
  • Act on curricular needs as defined by the CCA, other subcommittees, deans, and faculty.
  • Ensure any curricular changes and objectives are congruent with overall Stritch goals and objectives.
  • Work directly with course/clerkship directors to review, develop, and implement curricular revisions.
  • Collaborate with physicians-in-training and other groups such as Ministry, Bioethics, and Interprofessional Education who may have a vested interest in curricular matters to implement changes recommended by the CCA.
  • Track national trends in medical education as well as directives and recommendations from medical school oversight organizations such as AAMC and LCME.
  • Meet regularly as a group to discuss ongoing projects.
  • Provide regular updates to the CCA.
  • Attend the course and clerkship director meetings.
  • Serve on the Evaluation Subcommittee to provide specific curricular insight of content, including identification of  overlap vs  redundancies  between courses/clerkship, and inclusion or exclusion of content related to Stritch initiatives, as well as initiatives of national organizations.
  • Serve on the Competency Evaluation and Assessment Review Committee.

Each CYD may or may not be an educational dean with significant history of involvement in medical education at Stritch in roles which may include course or clerkship directors or assistant directors.  With this experience, each CYD has a solid working knowledge of Stritch goals, course, and/or clerkship and/or vertically integrated curricula objectives and content.
