Research Training Opportunities
The Burn and Shock Trauma Research Institute offers a variety of research training to pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellows and surgical residents. In addition, there are summer research internships for high school, undergraduate and medical students.
NIH Training Grants
Within the Division of Surgical Research in the Department of Surgery, we are fortunate to have two NIH-funded T32 Institutional Training Grants. Our program provides training and laboratory experience in research related to trauma and burn science and alcohol research. Trainees supported on these training grants include post-doctoral fellows holding M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent degrees and pre-doctoral-fellows who are graduate students working toward Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. degrees.
Research Training in Trauma and Burn Research
- Funded by the National Institute for General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)
- PIs: Richard Gonzalez, M.D., FACS, and Mashkoor Choudhry, M.D., Ph.D.
Training in Neuroimmunoendocrine Effects of Alcohol
- Funded by National Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
- PI: Mashkoor A. Choudhry, Ph.D.
The NIAAA grant also supports summer research internships for medical students, undergraduates and high school students from underrepresented minorities.
