What is your favorite thing about working at Loyola?
Working at Loyola is a bit like coming full circle for me. My family started here actually. After the Korean War, my grandfather, Martin Healy, decided to use the GI Bill to enroll here at Loyola, and at that time, my grandmother, Constance Hieber, was at Mundelein College. One day, they both went to the same dance at St. Jerome’s Church on Lunt, and at some point they danced together. The rest, as they say, was history. They married within a year, and then lived and raised my mom here in Rogers Park. So, it’s safe to say that this school and the neighborhood hold special place in my heart for sure.

What does Loyola's mission mean to you?
As an undergraduate, I went to Marquette University, which also shares the Jesuit mission, and the service piece is something I think I’ve tried to follow since then. For me, that mission to service is and has always been about connection. It means connecting with those around you, serving them to the best of your abilities, and trying to give as much as you can. There’s a quote I like that goes, “You make a living from what you get, but you make a life from what you give,” and I think that sums up how I try to serve the Loyola mission.

What motivates you to succeed each and every day?
I definitely don’t succeed every day. In fact, I fail at that a lot, but I think trying to stay open to the unknown that each day brings, and the potential opportunities that comes with it helps keep me focused on moving in the right direction.
