Master of Social Work (MSW)
The MSW program requires completion of 60 credit hours, including two internships totaling 1,200 hours. The program takes two years to complete if you are attending full time (four classes per semester plus two classes in the summer) or four years if you are attending part time (two classes per semester).
The first internship is 480 hours, performed at the rate of 16 hours per week on Tuesday and Thursday during normal business hours. The second internship is 720 hours performed at the rate of 24 hours per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during normal business hours.
A limited number of summer block internships are available for one of the internships. The block consists of 35-40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, again during normal business hours.
There are no prerequisites for the MSW program except the completion of a statistics course: Every MSW student is required to have completed a statistics course within the past four years with a grade of "C" or better at the start term of their MSW program. Students who do not meet this requirement at the point of admission must fulfill the requirement by the end of their start term. We offer an online statistics course for admitted MSW students to take prior to or during their start term.
The MSW curriculum is split up into foundation and advanced practice courses. Foundations courses are taken by all students, while advanced practice courses are taken in specialty areas.
Advising Templates have been created to assist students in planning their MSW program. Templates are divided by start term, specialization, and program plan.
